#5 - My instacamper kit - VIDEO

Image
Welcome back! After motorhomes , campervans , the simplest camping in a van , and an overview of camping kits on the market it's now time to check what I have come up with myself. So let's get to it, shall we? instacamper kit in action What do we need? As I mentioned in my previous post , none of the offerings on the market of removable campervan kits didn't convince me enough to buy it. Or at least they didn't tick all the boxes for my family needs. So I made a list of important / needed aspects of a kit that we could use. I imagined my campervan setup with features: - seating for 5 (with seat belts), - plenty of room in the middle of the van (so with middle row of seats out), - kitchen unit that I can remove and use it outside of the van (or leave it at home), - option of a water system (when we need it - also in the removable kitchen unit), - enough extra storage space for table, chairs, coolbox, bicycle helmets, inflatable pools, kick sco...

#4 - Campervan kits you can buy

Finally, a new blog post. :) In my previous posts I explored full-size motorhomes , campervans and the simplest way to camp in a van . In this episode I will delve into various camping kits for vans. I can't wait. How about you? From van to campervan in minutes ;) Where were we? Oh, right - I bought I van. And I tried camping in it with minimal fuss - just a bed, table, chairs and off we went (me and my wife, that is). Since we have (3) kids, and we like to spend time together and outdoors, the van should also serve as a family vacation vehicle - a mini campervan for us all. So the next logical step was to check the offerings for a kit that would do just that - convert a regular passenger van into a campervan and back. What the market offers And I found quite an array of product that could meet our needs. First there’s Amdro , a small company that started building boot camping boxes for car-derived vans like Citroen Berlingo or Renault Kangoo, but are...

#3 - The simplest campervan

Welcome back! My last post explored pros and cons of owning a (camper) van instead of owning a car and a motorhome, and before that I wrote about pros and cons of owning a full size motorhome . If you haven't already, don't miss reading them. Today, however, I will share my thoughts and experiences on making and using the simplest campervan possible. So let's continue with my story of camping... Sleeping in a van ( Tyler Lillico - Unsplash ) When I replaced my full-size hotorhome with a van I already had a plan how to adapt it to use it as a campervan in the most efficient and comfortable way - as one can with a space available in a van. The plan was to design and manufacture a full camping kit for the van - cabinets, bed, water system etc. And that would take some (or a lot) of my free time to do. As I was eager to try my van on a camping duty as soon as possible I had to resort to a more simple solution. How-to My van is a passenger variant Renault Trafic,...

#2 - Owning a (camper) van – pros & cons

Image
Welcome back! In the previous post I listed my pros & cons of owning a motorhome . We will delve into what owning and using a van means in this one. So my story continues… Photo by Brina Blum on Unsplash What it has to do After I few years owning a motorhome the cons of it became more and more obvious (and annoying). So I decided it was time to move to something smaller – a van. Something that is easier to drive and park and is more fuel efficient.   A vehicle that I can use as my daily driver –   to drive to work, kids to kindergarten and to school. Something that can transport my whole family (with kids in baby seats) plus baby stroller and some luggage. And sometimes even something larger like multiple bikes, furniture items or a lawn mower. A lot on it’s plate, I must admit. :) Vans to choose from I opted for one of the most common commercial vans in Europe – Renault Trafic (also known as Opel Vivaro or Nissan Primastar). It’s almost easier ...

#1 - From tent to motorhome – pros & cons of owning a motorhome

Image
So let’s get started with a question: why camping and campervans? Let me answer that with my story… Motorhome parking - Lago di Fusine, IT How it all began Like many of you, I like to spend time outdoors – walking, riding bikes, hiking, and camping. My first camping trips were with a tent. A few friends, bikes, a campfire, and all was good.   Camping with friends Then I met my wife, we got married and kids came along. The amount of camping kit that a family has to bring along and setup on the campsite was increasing. Gradually I got tired of setting up tents, assembling chairs and tables, inflating air mattresses… And if you wanted to change sites every few days, the whole process started again, so we stayed on one site for as long as we could. Our family camping setup Owning a motorhome - Pros So I bought a used full-size motorhome. It was roomy enough for the whole family, you could cook, eat, seat and sleep with minimal fuss. We could stop almost ...
